Operation Clean Sweep

A POLICE operation to reduce crime and clean grime is being rolled out across Cardiff.

It will run regularly in different areas of Cardiff to improve quality of life and reduce opportunities for crime & anti-social behaviour for communities across the city.

South Wales Police and partner agencies work together in address local concerns, which may have been raised at recent PACT meetings about litter, dumped household items, graffiti, and abandoned or unlicensed vehicles.

Examples of agencies taking part are Cardiff Council Waste Management Enforcement Team, Cardiff Council Abandoned Vehicle Team, Highways Dept, Environment Agency, Probation Service, Cardiff Bus, DVLA, South and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, 101 and Cardiff University Security.

Supt Davies of South Wales Police stated "Operation Clean Sweep is not just a one-off, it will be part of our daily business which is nothing less than communities deserve.

"Sheena Lawson, 101 Training & Liaison Officer who chairs the Multi-Agency Meetings said: "We are really pleased how successful the Multi-Agency Action days are becoming with all agencies working together to clean up Cardiff.

"It's great for residents to see that the agencies are working together to enhance their community, making it a safer and more enjoyable place to live."

Cllr Judith Woodman, Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council with portfolio responsibility for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, and Joint Chair of the Safer Capital partnership, adds: "Operation Clean Sweep is a great example of how effective partnership working can be and I am delighted by its success.

"Separately, each partner can achieve a lot but by working together, as part of Safer Capital, we can achieve a lot more and this is definitely the way forward from now on".
