British Transport Police cover all of the railway lines and stations within the South Wales police area.
The Wales and Western Area of British Transport Police was set up on 1 April 2003 by merging the Midland and South Western Areas. In 2003/2004, it dealt with 12% (9,940) of the Force's 83,380 reported notifiable crimes. It employs 281 police officers and 78 police staff.
